This is by far the most complicated and troublesome part of your trip. In a city, there are normally hundreds of different hotels and hostels for stay and whats more there are many different sites selling the same hotels and hostels but at different rate.

It can be time consuming to search for the best hotel/hostel at the lowest rate. One advise would be start your planning early as hotels can be sold out relatively fast during the summer holidays.

Also note that pictures on the web can be deceiving. It may not be what it actually looks like on the net. Try reading reviews by users before booking a particular hotel/hostel. One of the best websites for such reviews would be Trip Advisor (www.tripadvisor.com).
